I came across this beautiful Sweet chestnut tree in full flower in Portland. This is the tree species that edible chestnuts come from and one good way to tell this tree apart from the non edible Horse Chestnut is by its flowers.
Such a beautiful site in full flower. I came across a chestnut tree in SE Ohio as well today. It was really large and it had produced a great amount of fruit. I was hoping it was an American chestnut as there are still some resistant trees around. Instead, it was a chinese chestnut upon close inspection of the bud. Great blog here, thanks for sharing!
I love chestnuts! I'll have to watch out for this tree around Portland. Thanks for the identification tip!
